Prof Kenneth O’Byrne
Medical Oncologist and Clinical Scientist Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT)
Prof O’Byrne is a Consultant and Professor in Medical Oncology recently moved to the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) section of the Translational Research Institute (TRI) from St James’s Hospital and Trinity College, Dublin. He has conducted translational ‘bench-to-bedside-and back-again’ research over the past 25 years with a focus on solid epithelial tumours, in particular, in thoracic malignancies.
Prof O’Byrne was the founder of the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG), and founder member of the European Thoracic Oncology Platform (ETOP) and has held committee positions of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).
Prof O’Byrne has been involved in the design of and running phase I, II and III clinical trials encouraging the incorporation of biomarker studies, both prognostic and predictive, where possible. He has published over 400 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and books and has edited 2 books in thoracic oncology.

Dr Lucy Corke
Medical Oncologist Calvary Mater Newcastle
Dr Lucy Corke is a consultant medical oncologist at Calvary Mater Newcastle with an interest in thoracic malignancies. She graduated from the University of Queensland and completed physician and oncology training primarily at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She went on to complete a two-year clinical and research fellowship in Thoracic Oncology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, under the mentorship of Professor Natasha Leighl. She was involved in research focused on the use of liquid biopsies to guide personalised treatment in lung cancer, and the investigation of breath analysis as a diagnostic and monitoring tool.
Returning to Australia in 2023, she joined the team at Newcastle where she treats thoracic, brain and genitourinary cancers. She is passionate about equitable access to therapies and is a member of the MOGA Oncology Drugs Working Group. Lucy also enjoys teaching and education of medical students and supervision of physician trainees.

Prof Wendy Cooper
Pathologist Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, NSW Health Pathology
Prof Wendy Cooper is a senior staff specialist pathologist in Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and Anatomical Pathology Clinical Stream Lead for NSW Health Pathology. She has extensive experience in diagnostic and molecular pathology with special interest in thoracic pathology. She is a member of the Pathology Committee of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, a standing editor of the 6th edition of the WHO classification of Tumours and a member of the Expert Panel for the international CAP/IASLC/AMP Lung Cancer Molecular Testing Guidelines.

Prof Nick Pavlakis
Medical Oncologist, Royal North Shore Hospital Chair, TOGA Board of Directors
Prof Nick Pavlakis has nearly 20 years’ experience in the treatment and research of thoracic and gastrointestinal cancers. He is the current Chair of the TOGA Board and has previously served on the Boards of Northern Cancer Institute and COSA.
His training and research background includes new drug development, biomarker research, clinical trials, including TOGA’s ASPiRATION study, and clinical practice guidelines development.
Nick has served on the leadership committees of numerous national/international collaborative group trials in lung cancer, mesothelioma and gastrointestinal cancers. He was involved in the development of Australian clinical practice guidelines in lung cancer and mesothelioma. He has served as faculty of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) World Conference on Lung Cancer, its Mesothelioma task force and is current co-chair of the IASLC Continuing Medical Education Committee.

Medical Oncologist St John of God Subiaco Hospital
Tim is a medical oncologist at St John of God Subiaco in WA. He completed oncology training through the Victorian Medical Oncology Training Group and an MD at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne and the University of Melbourne. He has a subspecialty interest in the management of thoracic malignancies and is active in clinical trials and training junior medical staff in clinical research methodology.

Professor Christopher Cao
Cardiothoracic Surgeon Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Concord Hospital, Sydney University
Christopher Cao is the current Thoracic Representative of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons. He graduated from UNSW with First Class Honours and completed his Specialist Fellowship in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before joining the Faculty in New York University. He is now a Clinical Professor in Sydney University with over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals and textbook chapters. His clinical interest is in minimally invasive robotic thoracic surgery, and he currently performs the greatest number of these operations in Asia-Pacific.

Senior Medical Oncologist, Sunshine Coast University Hospital Associate Professor, Griffith University Adjunct Associate Professor, University of the Sunshine Coast, University of Queensland
Associate Professor Bryan Chan, BPharm (Hons I), MBBS (Hons I, Uni Medal), FRACP, MMed (Clin Epi), graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with first class honours and the University Medal from the University of Queensland. After being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, he completed a clinical research fellowship at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, where he was also the Chief Oncology Fellow. During his fellowship, he also undertook his Master of Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology with the University of Sydney.
Bryan is a senior medical oncologist at The Adem Crosby Cancer Centre, as well as at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital. He is an Associate Professor at Griffith University and the University of the Sunshine Coast and Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Queensland. His clinical interests are in managing thoracic malignancies with research interests in health service and quality.

Prof Shalini Vinod
Radiation Oncologist Liverpool Hospital
Prof Shalini Vinod (MBBS MD FRANZCR) is a senior staff specialist academic radiation oncologist who specialises in the treatment of lung cancer. She is employed at the Cancer Therapy Centre, Liverpool Hospital, NSW and is a Conjoint Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Honorary Professor at University of Wollongong.
Prof Vinod is the Lead Clinician for the Liverpool & Macarthur Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). She is a board member of TOGA, on the editorial board of Journal of Thoracic Oncology, a member of the IASLC Global Multidisciplinary Practice Standards committee and RANZCR representative for the National Lung Cancer Screening Advisory Group. She has particular expertise in health services research, radiotherapy utilisation, impact of multidisciplinary care, measurement of quality indicators and geriatric oncology models of care.

Dr Fiona Hegi-Johnson
Radiation Oncologist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Senior Research Fellow, University of Melbourne
Dr Fiona Hegi-Johnson is a Radiation Oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Victoria and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Clinically, she specialises in the treatment of patients with lung and breast cancer, including a subspecialty interest in stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR). Fiona is also the Chair of the TROG Lung Subspecialty Group and is the chief investigator on a number of clinical trials. Fiona’s research, which is supported by a Victorian Cancer Agency Fellowship, focuses on integrating biological and imaging information into radiotherapy to develop personalized, biologically driven approaches to radiotherapy treatment.
